Paul Wellstone was killed in the midst of a grueling re-election campaign on Oct. 25, 2002 when his small chartered plane crashed near an airport runway. His death came 11 days before the election. Wellstone, 7 others, killed in plane crash
Oct. 25 -Sen. Paul Wellstone was killed Friday when his small chartered plane crashed near an airport runway on the Iron Range. Wellstone, 58, his wife Sheila and their daughter died along with members of his family and staff as well as two pilots. The plane went down about two miles from a runway in a wooded area. Wellstone's campaign had chartered the craft to ferry the senator and his traveling party to a funeral. (More)
