Ford Bell was one of the first DFLers to say he was weighing a run for office once Sen. Mark Dayton decided he would not seek re-election. Bell is the grandson of one of the founders of General Mills. Bell is the president of the Minneapolis Heart Institute Foundation and is active in his family foundation, the James Ford Bell Foundation. He has served on the boards of numerous community and charitable organizations, including the Minneapolis Institute of Arts (current chair), the Greater Minneapolis Council of Churches, and Community Health Charities. He is an elder of Westminster Presbyterian Church in downtown Minneapolis, according to his campaign Web site.
