HOUR ONE: WINTER TOURISM

Minnesota Office of Tourism
Gately has been at the tourism office for more than 25 years and has observed the development of winter tourism in Minnesota first hand. He says the snowmobile, warm, wearable clothes, and an extensive trail system deserve credit for creating Minnesota's winter tourism industry.
Terry Mattson, Duluth Visitors and Convention Bureau
About a third of Duluth's annual tourism revenue is received between November and April. Mattson knows what has succeeded and what has not for attracting visitors during the cold months.

Live from Mille Lacs Lake
Despite this year's thin ice, Mille Lacs Lake sports 2,600 ice houses, making it the largest gathering of portable ice structures in the state and possibly the country. Mainstreet reporter Leif Enger checks in live.

HOUR TWO: SNOWMOBILING

Mausolf is an advocate of snowmobile trail development around the state.
Dave Zenter, former national president of the Izaak Walton League
A well-known known environmentalist, Zenter believes there is room for silent sports as well as snowmobiling in Minnesota.
Captain Craig Backer, Minnesota State Patrol
Backer has served as the patrol's snowmobile expert for several years and will talk about safety and enforcement.
