QUESTION: We'd like to ask you a few questions about Northwest 
Airlines.  As you know, the pilots' strike has been settled and
the airline is resuming its service. Which of the following
statements would you say is most accurate when it comes
to whether or not the strike has an affect on you or your
family's travel plans or personal income?
My travel plans were affected       23%
My income was affected               2%
Both my travel plans and my          1%
income were affected by the strike.
The strike has no affect on me.     74%

 

QUESTION: Based on what you know about the issue, would
you say generally that you were more sympathetic to the 
company or the pilots?

QUESTION : In the aftermath of the strike, are you more
likely or less likely to fly on Northwest planes in the 
future or will the strike not have any effect at all?

QUESTION : In the past, smaller airlines from time to time
have offered service on some Twin Cities routes that
competed with Northwest but then were forced to drop that
service when Northwest reduced its fares on the same routes.
Do you think it would be a good idea or a bad idea for the 
federal government to intervene and protect the smaller
airlines, allowing them to continue offering service that
competes with Northwest?

The MPR Poll was conducted by Mason-Dixon Political/Media Research, Inc. of Columbia, Maryland September 16, 1998. A total of 403 registered Minnesota voters were interviewed statewide by telephone. Margin for error is plus or minus 5%. A total of 201 men and
202 women were interviewed.
