On November 2, voters in St. Paul will vote on whether to raise the city sale's tax one-half cent to pay for a new baseball stadium for the Minnesota Twins. If voters approve the measure, the Legislature will be asked to contribute to the stadium's construction too. What is the benefit of professional sports franchises in Minnesota? To what extent should taxpayers subsidize privately owned sports franchises? How will Minnesota balance the demands of both the Twins and the Vikings for new stadiums? These are some of the questions we'll explore in a two-hour Fitzgerald Forum, presented by Minnesota Public Radio and the Saint Paul Pioneer Press. Program: Hour One: A focus on the Vikings with guests: Senate Majority Leader Roger Moe, House Speaker Steve Sviggum, Senator Roy Terwilliger and Vikings owner Red McCombs. Hour Two: A focus on the Twins with guests: Saint Paul Mayor Norm Coleman, Tom Montgomery, Jay Benanav, and Betsy Bockstruck. Listen online, and exchange opinions with others in the MPR Forum. |
