Minnesota Department of Natural Resources
The DNR's Mississippi
River Critical Area Program, in cooperation with the National Park Service
provides planning and management for 72 miles of the Mississippi River, portions
of the Minnesota River, and adjacent corridor lands.
Minnesota Department of Transportation
The Ports and Waterways section of the MnDot Office of Freight Railroads& Waterways
works to implement the effective development and operation of the state's inland river transportation systems.
Minnesota Historical Society
As part of its Shipwreck Exhibit, the Minnesota Historical society presents this History of Inland Water Transportation in Minnesota.
Minnesota Pollution Control Agency
The MPCA is working with
people to clean up the Minnesota River. On this site you will find information
on the river itself, its watersheds, pollutants, and some of the efforts
underway to clean it up.
Mississippi Headwaters Board
The
Mississippi Headwaters board was formed in 1980 to enhance and protect the first
400 miles of the Mississippi River in Minnesota. This site details MHB's efforts
to preserve the quality of the headwaters region through river monitoring
programs, workshops and volunteer participation.
Mississippi River Basin
Alliance
The Mississippi River Basin Alliance brings together
environmental justice groups with traditional conservation groups to work toward
greater protection for the ecological, economic, cultural, historic and
recreational resources along the Mississippi river.
Mississippi River Parkway
Commission
The MRPC promotes and develops highway projects along the
3,000 mile network of roads along the Mississippi River collectively known as
the Great River Road. This site features maps, calendar of events, and links to
ten Mississippi River states.
Mississippi River Research
Consortium
MRRC promotes organized research efforts on the Mississippi
River, establishing and encouraging communication among river scientists, the
wider scientific community, and the public.
National
Park Service
This National Park Service website provides information on
recreation, education and volunteer activities in the Mississippi National River
Recreation Area, which extends from Dayton, MN through the Twin Cities and
