Fairview Health Services
Hospitals include: Fairview Southdale in Edina and the Riverside
campus of Fairview-University Medical Center in Minneapolis.
Status (1,500 nurses): Nurses set to strike Sunday morning after
voting down contract offer Saturday. Tentative agreements had been
reached at both hospitals. Union had recommended ratification.
Union officials said the contract was rejected because the
hospitals didn't offer enough on health insurance premiums and the
offer of a 19.8 percent pay increase over three years was
inadequate.
The following is the strike contingency plan from Fairview Health Services:
- Fairview has taken steps to continue serving its patients (inpatients, outpatients and emergency department services). Non-represented nurses, licensed practical nurses, nursing assistants, supervisory staff and all other staff will be available to continue hospital operations.
- We have also contracted with a national nursing company to provide us with highly trained nursing professionals. These nurses meet all state of Minnesota licensing requirements and have years of experience in the specialty services we offer. Nurses will be assigned based upon their training and experience. They will also receive Fairview-specific orientation before starting work at Fairview.
- All non-hospital-based services, including Fairview Clinics, Urgent Care centers, Retail Pharmacies and Home Care services, are unaffected by the potential strike action and will remain open as usual. Patient education classes will continue to be offered as usual.
- Only the Riverside campus of Fairview-University Medical Center and Fairview Southdale Hospital are affected by the potential strike action.
- The University campus of Fairview-University Medical Center is not affected by the potential strike action and will remain open as usual.
Several Fairview hospitals are not affected by this strike action.

- The high quality, specialized care that Fairview is known for will continue to be provided. Unless a patient hears from us, we are prepared to serve them for any scheduled appointments. We encourage patients to continue to seek health care services from Fairview as they ordinarily would.
We encourage patients to call Fairview HealthWise at (612) 672-7272 with any questions regarding services at Fairview.
