Minneapolis Mayoral Race



Sharon Sayles Belton
Sharon Sayles Belton was elected mayor of Minneapolis in 1993. She graduated from Central High School, and attended Macalester College, 1969 to 1973. She was a civil rights worker in Jackson, Mississippi, a parole officer in Minnesota and later assistant director of Minnesota Program for Victims of Sexual Assault. She is co-founder of Harriet Tubman Shelter for Battered Women. Sayles Belton was elected to the City Council in 1983.
