St. Paul, Minn. — British fantasy author China Miéville is known both for his books and his political activism. He's written a series of novels about a fictional world called Bas Lag where magic and steam technology are both prevalent. He's also run unsuccessfully for the British Parliament as a socialist and regularly visits Cuba. His latest novel, "Iron Council," sets a group of renegade railway workers against a corrupt city state. Miéville told Minnesota Public Radio's Euan Kerr what he's really interested in is creating monsters.
