St. Paul, Minn. — The idea of writing an entire book around a single song would be considered a daunting task by most authors. Griel Marcus, however, just thought it was a bad idea.
But after first refusing the project, Greil began to realize the cultural impact of a "Like a Rolling Stone: Bob Dylan at the Crossroads." It also helped that it was Griel Marcus' favorite song.
Greil Marcus was in town to read from his newest book, which celebrates the 40th anniversary of this song.
Marcus shows how, far from being a song only of 1965, "Like a Rolling Stone" is capable of reinvention by artists as disparate as the comedian Richard Belzer and the Italian hip-hop duo Articolo 31.
