Minneapolis Minn. — Five years ago the City Pages weekly newspaper caught a cultural wave by creating a Twin Cities documentary film festival called "Get Real." With the success of "Bowling for Columbine," "Fahrenheit 911," and this year's "March of the Penguins," documentary film is enjoying an unprecedented revival in the U.S.

The Get Real Festival returns this weekend with 30 films, 19 of them receiving their local premiers. The festival is also showing a number of rarely screened classics.

Curator Rob Nelson says the festival opens with an entire day of films exploring different aspects of war, including the classic 1970s film "The Selling of the Pentagon."

Nelson talked with MPR's Euan Kerr about the lineup of films. You can listen to their conversation by choosing the audio link in the right column.
