Mission from Minnesota, a grass-roots organization whose members took it on themselves to help with hurricane recovery efforts in the Gulf Coast region, is planning another relief trip over Thanksgiving week.

St. Paul, Minn. — They've driven a 26-foot trailer to the hard-hit Gulf Coast region. They've assisted with on-the-ground cleanup efforts, and they've helped relocate evacuees with families who would take them in.

They're not a government agency; they're not the Red Cross or the Salvation Army. They're Mission from Minnesota, a grass-roots organization whose members took it on themselves to raise money and get people involved in the recovery effort after Hurricanes Katrina and Rita.

Diana Knobel drives the big truck, which originally belonged to an artist. It has photos of faces of Minnesotans on the side. Knobel she says it allows her to move freely in the Gulf Coast area, collecting and delivering food and supplies once she gets there.

Diana Knobel talked with MPR's Tom Crann about her group's upcoming trip. To listen to their interview, choose the audio link in the right column.
