St. Paul, Minn. — Felicity Huffman took the Golden Globe for best dramatic actress last night. It wasn't for her role in the hit show "Desperate Housewives" but for a very different character in a new film "Transamerica." The movie opens in the Twin Cities later this week.

In "Transamerica" she plays Bree, a transsexual woman. Bree is just days away from her final surgery to complete her transformation from a man to a woman when she discovers she has a teenage son from a long forgotten one night stand. It sets Bree off on a cross-country trip to find the boy, and perhaps find herself.

"Transamerica" director Duncan Tucker, also wrote the script. He told Minnesota Public Radio's Euan Kerr that he wanted to make a film about an epic trip while exploring issues that effect all of us.
