A closeup view of the BWCA fire

Along the Gunflint Trail, Minn. — The forest fire sweeping through parts of the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness is cause for concern to visitors and residents of the area. The Cavity Lake Fire near the end of the Gunflint Trail is the largest in the BWCA since 1999, when a fierce July 4 storm blew down millions of trees in the area.

Several people who live near the Gunflint Trail captured the fire in some dramatic photos from the south shore of Seagull Lake. The photos were taken by Barb Tuttle, Carol DeSain and Betsy Bowen. They continue to update an online photo album of the fire on www.boreal.org, an Internet service provider in the area.
