Latino Youth from across the state gathered at St. Thomas University in St. Paul this past weekend for three days of motivation, inspiration...and a call to action. They were urged to stay in High School and set their sights on college. Minnesota Public Radio's Karen-Louise Boothe reports.

When people think of the Red River they likely think of the disastrous flooding this spring. But for catfish lovers the Red is gaining a national reputation as a prime spot for their favorite fish. This summer researchers are gathering data they hope will help protect a species that's been ignored for decades. Minnesota Public Radio's Dan Gunderson reports.

Over the weekend the Minnesota Twins celebrated the 10th anniversary of their 1987 World Championship season. Minnesota Public Radio's Robin Gehl reports on the festivities at the Metrodome.

Governor Carlson has decreed today Mall of America Day, in honor of the mega-mall's fifth birthday. Mall officials say business is booming, with an estimated 190 Million visitors since opening day. Minnesota Public Radio's Martin Kaste spent some time at the Mall talking to people about why it is such a popular destination.

Wall Street has a case of inflation jitters, and wary financial traders will get some data this week that will either calm their nerves or feed the frenzy. Mn Public Radio's Chris Farrell assesses the mood on Wall Street.

Naturalist Kathy Heidel leads exploration walks at the Lowry Nature Center. On a recent visit she showed Bob Potter how to find spit bugs.

Minneapolis Postmaster Rochelle Eastman discusses how the UPS strike is affecting the Postal Service after one week.


Tuesday, August 12

If your summer reading includes murder mysteries then you already know something about the work of medical examiners. The busiest medical examiners office in Minnesota is the one directed by Dr. Gary Peterson, the Hennepin County Medical Examiner. This year his office will handle over 1500 cases. About forty percent include autopsies. Peterson talked with Minnesota Public Radio intern Becky Sisco about his work.

Mpls Mayor Sharon Sayles Belton discusses the petition drive that could let voters decide if they want to spend millions on a new ballpark.
