Wellstone looks to suburbs
The Twin Cities suburbs are a key battleground for Sen. Paul Wellstone. Polls show Wellstone and his Republican challenger Norm Coleman are running neck and neck statewide, but that Wellstone is trailing Coleman in the suburbs. The same polls show Wellstone enjoys a lead in rural Minnesota. Minnesota Public Radio's Mark Zdechlik reports.
'Contraction kids' will play for pennant
What do Bud Selig and the Oakland A's have in common? Both failed to eliminate the Minnesota Twins in 2002. Behind a dominating performance from starting pitcher Brad Radke, the Twins beat Oakland 5-4 in the deciding game of the divisional playoffs on Sunday. They advanced to the American League Championship series. Minnesota Public Radio's Jon Gordon reports from Oakland.

Poll: Hunters worried about chronic wasting disease
New poll results indicate hunter turnout will take a serious hit if chronic wasting disease is discovered in Minnesota's wild deer population. Even without a confirmed case, the numbers are likely to go down, although veteran deer hunters expect to be out in force this year. Poll figures also predict a significant drop in people willing to eat venison. Mainstreet Radio's Erin Galbally reports.
Preserving unique habitats
We've nearly paved over paradise in the Twin Cities with parking lots, homesites, roads and shopping centers. Less than six percent of the seven-county region's original habitat remains. All that's left of what the first residents saw are remnants of the prairie, the big woods, streams and other natural systems. There's a drive on to protect what remains. Minnesota Public Radio's Dan Olson reports.

Twins take on Anaheim in AL Championship Series
Only one team stands between the Minnesota Twins and a spot in baseball's World Series. At the Metrodome tonight, the Twins will take on the Anaheim Angels in the opening game of the American League Championship Series. The winner of the best-of-seven series will face either the St. Louis Cardinals or the San Francisco Giants in baseball's Fall Classic. Minnesota Public Radio's William Wilcoxen has more.
California broadcaster describes the Anaheim Angels
The Minnesota Twins host the Anaheim Angels later today for game one in the American League Championship Series at the Metrodome. The Twins season has been magical so far. The team has survived the threat of contraction, injuries, and the Oakland A's in the division series. And now they face another team nobody expected to make it this far. Joining us on the line is Terry Smith, who does play-by-play and color commentary for the Anaheim Angels on KLAC-AM radio in southern California.
New book on Jesse Ventura
A new book by a local political reporter chronicles Gov. Jesse Ventura's improbable election and his time as governor of Minnesota. Tom Hauser has been covering Ventura for KSTP-TV since the day Ventura filed to run for governor. Hauser's book, "Inside the Ropes with Jesse Ventura," follows the governor through his triumphant tour of late-night talk shows, his relevations to Playboy, his stint as commentator for the XFL, and his battles with the media and the state legislature. Hauser says his goal was not to write an expose, but rather to document this remarkable period in Minnesota history.
International movement promotes 'slow food'
You've heard of fast food. How about slow food? Slow Food is an international movement that focuses on cooking and eating at a leisurely pace. Its members believe in supporting small-scale food production, local farmers and reviving regional food traditions. While there are 65,000 members worldwide, the movement is taking off rather slowly in Minnesota. There are about 100 members in the state. However, they say there is growing interest. Mainstreet Radio's Laurel Druley has this report.
