Promote responsible consumption Too many 'solutions' involve the government subsidizing this and supporting that. People who live in small towns do so by choice, and most people in small towns commute to larger towns to work. These people (myself included) may want to consider going cold turkey on the oil industry (a big chunk of the current trade deficit) by getting a diesel car (filled with b-100/biodiesel) or a FFV (Flexible Fuel Vehicle/e-85). Small choices like this will help infuse a rural economy with more local jobs. Small business and self-employment are key, especially for a small economy. Individual choices made by the residents of small towns and rural areas will dictate those areas' future. From Tregg Anderson of Cromwell, MN on 05/16/05 Rating: In the North Metro Area people do not seem concerned with this and continue to purchase massive SUV's. A steady stream of SUV's drives south everyday from their "country" home to the cities to work. They have one person in them and they all have a magnetic sticker that says Support the Troops. If they truly wanted to support the troops they would invest in a fuel efficient vehicle as you suggest so that we would not be so dependent on foreign oil. From Tane Anderson of North Branch, MN on 08/22/05 Rating: Seldom have we heard such imaginative and helpful and creative ideas about the current situation and possible future of Minnesota's small towns. No one should "give up" and wring their hands and walk away. Every twenty years or so, Minnesotans and other Midwesterners have engaged in watching life and lives change around them. This sort of airing concerns and problems has led to enormous successful changes....from the horse-drawn plow to the no-till...to production of super corn, p From George Brooks of Fort Myers, FL on 06/07/05 Rating: From Carol Ford of Milan, MN on 05/18/05
