Snapshot

Jim Simon is the Democratic Party's only hope in Nebraska of winning a congressional seat. The millionaire who made his wealth from selling his Internet company to America Online is challenging Rep. Lee Terry as the only serious Democratic contender in the state's four House and Senate elections. All those seats are held by Republicans. Reps. Tom Osborne and Doug Bereuter face no Democratic opposition, while popular Sen. Chuck Hagel faces a challenger with little financial support. Simon, whose family founded and owns Omaha Steaks, is expected to give Terry a run in the Omaha-area district as Simon has matched the two-term incumbent in fund-raising.
