Historic Stillwater prison (4 of 11)
Interior of cell

The interior of a men's cell, about 1909. The average size of each cell was 5 ft. x 7 ft. x 8 ft. "The cells in the old prison are not only small and poorly ventilated, but they do not contain the necessary toilet requisites, including running water to promote or at least conserve the health of the occupants," according to The Handbook of the Minnesota Prison, 1909.
