Johnson: "Daisy" (1964)

This ad, implicitly against opponent Barry Goldwater, marked the fateful introduction of a dramatically different mode of campaign ad communication. It was the first major use of a harsh attack. It was designed to manipulate peoples' emotions and play on their fears. (Some ill-considered Goldwater statements gave them the opening.)
