In 1956, a version of "The Rock Island Line" by Scottish-born singer Lonnie Donegan becomes a Top Ten hit in Britain and the United States. The song is also the catalyst for the British skiffle craze. Many musicians who started out playing skiffle become key figures in the British Invasion.
